Free Boobie Beanie Pattern/Tutorial

Boobie Beanie!

I'm a breastfeeding mom and yesterday I did a special on my Facebook page where if you saw my post on "the leaky b@@b" Facebook page and mentioned it to me in a message I would make you a boobie beanie for just $8. I normally charge $10-$12. These boobie beanies aren't for everyone! But a lot of people love them! They make a great baby shower gift for a future breastfeeding mom. Moms like to put them on their babies in the hospital in case baby is in the nursery the nurses will know that their baby is to be breastfed only .
Awesomeness

Other moms are pro-breastfeeding in public and like to put them on their babies while they nurse ( I think its awesome!). They're great for breast cancer awareness or cancer walks if you want a team of boobie heads :-) and they make great gifts for people that just really love boobies! I'm sure most of us can think of a few boobie lovers that we know....Anyway I've decided to post a boobie hat pattern! Please let me know if you find any mistakes in this pattern because I am not exactly a pattern writer. Enjoy!.

Materials Needed: Worsted weight yarn. I used Red Heart Super Saver in Aran for the body of the hat, Perfect Pink for the nipple and Light Raspberry for the tip of the nipple. Since this is  a very Caucasian looking boobie
Size G Crochet Hook  or whatever is needed to obtain gauge
Tapestry Needle  for weaving in ends
Gauge: 7 dc= approx 2in/5cm 2rows= approx 1.5in/4cm
This hats is sized to fit a 0-6mo baby. Approx 4.5in diameter and 5in height.

Tip is slightly darker than the rest of the nipple (because that's kind of how nipples look! duh!)

I used a darker shade of pink for the tip, but that's not necessary!
Pattern:
Rnd1: Ch3, dc into 3rd ch from Hook (see photos bellow) continue with 4 more dc into same ch. sl st into top of ch2 to join (6dc)

Rdn2: (can join new color if desired) Ch3(counts as dc here and throughout) 1dc in next st, 2dc in every st around. sl st into top of ch3 to join (10dc)
Rnd3: Ch3 2dc in each st around. sl st into top of ch3 to join (20dc)

Nipple is complete
Rnd4: Join new color (lighter color) Ch3, 2dc in each st around. sl st to top of ch3 to join. (40dc)

Rnd5: Ch3 *2dc in next st, 1dc in next* Repeat from *to* around sl st to top of ch3 to join (60dc)
Rnd6-10: Ch3, 1dc in each st around, sl st to top of ch3 to join.
Rnd11: Ch2, 1sc in each st around, sl st to top of ch2 to join.
weave in ends and voila! Boobie Beanie!

Now enjoy! and if crochet isn't your thing but you really would like a boobie beanie email me at HappyHookCrochet@gmail.com and I'd be delighted to make you one!... or ten! Whatever floats your boat :-)

  1. Hi! I really, really want to make this for a dear friend who is expecting her first baby. But when I follow the directions I don't get a perky nipple, just a flat, boring one. Any suggestions as to what I might be doing wrong?

    1. Hi Nancy, so sorry for the late response! I was just notified of your comment! I'm not sure why the nipple would be flat. Maybe try tightening up your stitches a little more when crocheting the nipple part or even try a smaller hook for the tip of the nipple.

  3. If you follow Rnd 5 you will end up with 60 dc... is that correct or should I be doing *2dc in next st, 1dc in next 2 dc*?

    1. Hi Cody, you are absolutely correct! Round 5 is 60 stitches. Thank you for noticing and I will be sure to make the changes. Did you finish your beanie? I'd love to know how it turned out!

    3. I did finish but I had a bit of trouble getting rounds 3-5 to curve so I decreases more gradually (20,30,40,50,60) and it worked up fine. I was going for a newborn size but it turned out more like 3-6 mo. I will be making more of these for sure.

  5. This is fantastic. Great job. I wonder if you might be able to help me make a larger size. Heres the thing. My sister has breast cancer in both breasts and has already had one surgery and will very soon be going back to have a double radical mastectomy. Her best friend and I are organizing a fundraiser and I am making a few stuffed crochet boobies for table decorations etc. I then saw the beanie's and thought it would be a fun idea to make a few 'adult' sized ones for a few of us, including my sister, to wear during the fundraiser. I have not been able to find a pattern of adult size. I love to crochet and I can read a pattern however I am horrible at figuring out how to change sizes. :( I realize its a lot to ask of someone to help me write a pattern and I really dont have anything to offer you for it. I completely understand if you are unable but my motto is 'you never know until you ask'. Thank you for any consideration and again your work is beautiful. Have a blessed day. Happy Hooking.

    1. Hi Kate,
I'm so sorry to hear about your sister, but it sounds like she has a great support system :-) I've actually had a few requests for an adult sized pattern. I think it'd be great to post one so people can use it to make hats for breast cancer walks or fundraisers like what you are doing. I'm going to work on the pattern today and get it posted ASAP. I'll let you know when it's up :-)

    3. A web site that you may want to look at is called Knitted Knockers. Here is the address: http://knittedknockersusa.com/
They provide a knitted "knocker" that can be inserted in your bra. It is made from a special yarn and even has a nipple. It is stuffed with a soft stuffing and a hole is left in the bottom so that you can add or remove stuffing so that you match. It is cool, comfortable, soft, hand washable and FREE. I believe they have a crocheted pattern if you would like to try it but they also state the knitted pattern is more comfortable. I am a breast cancer survivor (12 years) and please give her my best wishes. I could go on and on about this program but please just look at the website and see what you think. It really is free and there are no strings attached.

  6. I love this pattern and my friend is due in a month. I'm going to work one up for her and would love to make some for the 3 day walk(adult size) for some friends that walk it every year. By the way, I just found your blog and and like the comic I think it's awesomeness!

    1. Hi Laura, I'm not sure what could be wrong. Did you count to make sure there were 60 stitches in that round?

  9. please can I have the adult size boobie beanie pattern? and my other question was how can I make it big enough for a 9 to 12 month old baby? thanks

  10. I am not sure that she has been on here recently, so here are my thoughts. Make the nipple and areola part, then continue with a basic beanie in the size you need. Here is my standard go to beanie...especially when I have another pattern that only gives one size. This sure provides patterns from newborn to adult using sc, hdc, and dc. Hope this helps!

  13. Hello, I am going to make two of these for a friend. Will one skein of the skin color yarn be enough, or should I get two? I have to order online, so I want to make sure I get the right amount Thanks!
